RPC launches initiative to recycle used cups into valuable second life products

RPC Tedeco-Gizeh is the UK’s sole manufacturer of plastic vending cups. The company is launching a unique initiative to help customers recycle their used cups into valuable second life products.

The company is collaborating with RPC bpi recycled products, its sister business from the RPC Group.  RPC bpi recycled products facilitate vending suppliers and operators to collect their own used cups and deliver them to the RPC bpi facility in Dumfries. The collected, used-cups will be reprocessed and blended with other recycled polymers for use in the manufacture of RPC bpi’s market-leading Plaswood, which is high-performance lumber made from 100% recycled plastic.

Plaswood has unique characteristics that do not rot, splinter, crack or degrade with age and requires no maintenance. Fences, posts and outdoor furniture are manufactured in Plaswood.

Excel Vending, Scotland’s leading vending machine supplier, is the first company to make use of this service, collecting cups from its customer base across Scotland.

Jane McDonald, managing director, Excel Vending, said, “This is a great initiative. The cups are a valuable resource that can be put to good use rather than going to landfill and will help to support our environmental and CSR strategy.”

According to Nigel Cannon, RPC Tedeco-Gizeh’s UK Sales Manager, the new initiative offers a closed-loop supply opportunity for vending businesses.

Nigel, commented, “As a UK producer, our cups already offer important benefits in terms of a lower carbon footprint from more efficient logistics and deliveries. They can now have a significant end-of-life use that keeps them out of the waste stream.”

RPC bpi recycled products are the largest polythene film recycler in Europe. The company has the capacity and expertise to recycle up to 70,000 tonnes of plastic waste each year.
