PolyOne unveils Hammerhead Marine Composite Panels with lightweight savings of more than 50% in comparison to plywood. These continuous-fiber reinforced thermoplastic sandwich panels offer boat manufacturers a lighter, more efficient alternative to traditional marine construction materials.
Hammerhead Marine Composite Panels are made of thermoplastics and are continuous glass-fiber face sheets and foam cores. Their composition introduces unique characteristics such as the improved bond ability to various surfaces, enabling thermal lamination to different materials and finishes for increased design flexibility when compared with traditional assembly methods.
Light weight Hammerhead panels improve installation and labor productivity by replacing the typical wood, hand lay-up and vacuum assisted process with a consolidated, ready-to-install panel. Hammerhead panels are used in wide range of applications from structural to cosmetic in areas such as bulkheads, decking, ceilings, hatches, covers, cabinetry, fittings, transoms, and stringers. Composites One, a leading materials distributor to the marine industry, is the current supplier of these new panels.
Matt Borowiec, General Manager, PolyOne Advanced Composites, commented, “Boat builders now have an innovative alternative based on strong, lightweight thermoplastic materials that can remove multiple production steps for better quality and economics.”
