Leoni, a global provider of products, solutions, and services for energy and data management in the automotive sector and other industries has completed its third Serbian plant in Nis.
The company completed the first phase of the plant covering an area of 6000 m2 just in less than five months, the construction work of which was stared on 24 February 2017 and the production from the first phase started in July 2017. The plant will ultimately cover an area of 20000 m2 . The new plant at the Nis location is expected to have an investment of EUR 22 million.
The construction work for the plant was started on 24 February 2017, and in less than five months, the first 6,000 m2 of the production space was built. Presently, the Nis plant has around 1,200 employees. This figure will rise to 2,200 by the end of 2019. The plant has now inaugurated officially.
Martin Stüttem, Member of the Board of Directors of Leoni AG with responsibility for the Wiring Systems Division (WSD), said, “The inauguration of our plant in Nis is a happy event for the country of Serbia and for our new employees. Today’s celebrations are also this year’s first official sign of our continuing expansion. Leoni plans to build five more new production facilities for wiring systems in the near future.”
Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, the President of the Republic of Serbia, expressing his great satisfaction with the new plant, commented that will bring new jobs to the southern part of Serbia.
Leoni serves the value chain of a wide spectrum of sectors covering wires, optical fibres, standardised cables, special cables and cable system assemblies including intelligent products and smart services.
