First Plant Commissioned by Röchling Automotive in Mexico

Roechling AutomotiveRöchling Automotive, the plastics specialist and a global partner for automobile system suppliers and manufacturers, with headquarters in Germany’s Mannheim, has publicly opened its first site in Mexico for production. Several guests were present at the commissioning of the new production facilities, warehouses, and spaces in Silao, Mexico.

Röchling executives and employees, clients, local political and industry representatives attended the opening ceremony. Röchling Group CEO Georg Duffner pointed out the primary reasons for setting up a Röchling plant in Mexico, stating that considering the international automotive market, the country is gradually gaining significance. Mexico is ranked fourth and seventh amongst vehicle-exporting countries and vehicle manufacturing countries respectively. Moreover, the country has developed into an innovation driver in automotive. According to Duffner, all international automotive suppliers must have a presence in the country. Röchling, with the new Mexico location, is pursuing a systematic corporate strategy of incessant internationalization and more growth overseas. The company aims to be a global leader in engineering plastics.

For the new plant construction in Silao, EUR 5.7 million was invested by Röchling. According to North America General Manager and President for Röchling Automotive, Vincent Mauroit, the company has been capable of sticking to its ambitious timetable owing to the dedication, commitment and exceptional collaboration with the general contractors, property developers, architects, local authorities and other partners. The construction of the new plant along with the installation of machinery and facilities was done within 14 months. In March 2016, the initial most production line has already been evaluated and approved.

Juan Antonio Morales Maciel, the Silao mayor, is excited about the fact that Röchling Automotive has chosen the city for its Mexico location. The Guanajuato Governor, Miguel Marquez, highlighted the excellent infrastructure, accessibility, and location of the region and added that the local government is happy about the new jobs created.

The Röchling management is already preparing to expand. Apart from Volkswagen, Audi, Nissan, and Ford, recently GM, Mercedes, and BMW were acquired as clients by the Mexico plant. The company intends to obtain new customers in the domains of engine encapsulation, aerodynamics, underbody, fluid components as well as the engine, water, and air flow management. The current yearly sales of EUR 14 million this year is expected to increase to around EUR 60 million in the year 2020.
