Corbion has already started to test, authenticate and sell pre-marketing PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) volumes with an aim to hasten PLA’s market acceptance further. The novel 75 kTpa PLA production plant of Corbion is expected to begin somewhere in the last six months of 2018. Before the same, PLA resins are planned to be stretched so they could embrace the North American market after their positive introduction in the Pacific and European markets.
The Americas’ Senior Business Director, Derek Atkinson said, “Making these pre-marketing resins available in the USA will accelerate market acceptance of PLA and will allow Corbion to gain a deeper insight into the various product-market combinations. Many customers have expressed a need for a credible and high-quality 2nd source of PLA resins.”
Corbion works with the strategy of ‘Disciplined Value Creation’ which was introduced on 30 October 2014. As part of the same, Corbion is rushing its drive into the biotechnology field. Thereby, it is making the next move in the bioplastics value chain by turning into a PLA producer. PLA is both biodegradable and biobased, and thus, a unique bioplastic.
For the Americas markets, the portfolio of Corbion comprises a collection of high performance, high heat PLLA, and PDLA homopolymer resins, which particularly aim at applications where high heat resistance and sturdiness are main requirements. Besides, the Corbion product range is complimented by different standard PLA grades. The PLA products’ assortment is customized for use in film and sheet extrusion, thermoforming and fiber spinning, and injection molding. Also, it properly suits packaging, disposable and durable applications.
Corbion has built a local warehouse on the US continent for timely serving its customers.
