Hefei Kaijie and Shanghai Feili, the two auto component manufacturers have for the first time introduced BASF’s Elastofoam polyurethane (PU) integral foam for use in engine covers to improve cabin comfort to the latest vehicles manufactured in China.
Elastofoam polyurethane (PU), the high-performance material, provides excellent control to noise, vibration, and harshness that make cars quieter and provide riders with a better experience inside the vehicle’s cabin.
Contrary to the conventional engine covers, engine covers made with Elastofoam PU are produced with a simple, one-step process that reduces time and resources used in manufacturing. This improves manufacturing efficiency.
The use of Elastofoam polyurethane (PU), due to its lightweight, results in lower vehicle weight, lower fuel consumption, and emissions that support sustainable mobility. The open-cell foam structure of Elastofoam helps in reducing impact to the hood.
Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, said, “With the introduction of this innovative material solution in China, we are meeting the industry’s needs for innovative and cost-efficient material solutions that improve the driving experience, as well as the vehicle’s performance, energy efficiency, design, and passenger safety.”
