BASF intensify its E-commerce Strategy with a newly launched online store in China

BASF Online ShopBASF has opened up a new e-commerce shop for its customers in China on Alibaba e-commerce platform ( Chinese customers can now avail the opportunity of purchasing BASF products online directly with the same quality and logistics services. This store will help BASF to offer more flexibility to its small and medium enterprises.

Dr. Zheng Daqing, BASF’s Senior VP, Business and Market Development Greater China said, “With e-commerce omnipresent in our lives, almost anything can be bought with a click. It is important for BASF to make our offerings more accessible to our customers in the rapidly growing local market,”

He also added, “The online sales model will complement our traditional sales channels, to provide convenience to our existing customers and allow us to identify and effectively serve more small and medium-size customers.”

Mr. Yang Meng, Alibaba CBU Co-Chaired President said, “we are glad to see BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, intensifying its e-commerce strategy and hope more chemical players will follow suit. We are committed to enhancing the order-to-door experience with swift order confirmation, certified storage and transportation of chemical products, and timely delivery.”

Initially, in the first batch, popular products from BASF’s performance chemicals, dispersions and resins, intermediates and care chemicals divisions are made available at the store. Customers can easily find the required products including antioxidants such as Irganox1010, Irgafos168 and Irganox1076, Keropur fuel additives, NMP intermediates, and dispersions EFKA products, etc. In coming days more products will be available on the platform.

Leveraging the digitization wave, BASF was the first chemical company to open an online store on Alibaba, three years ago. BASF presence in e-commerce already has helped it to smoothen the processes along with the supply chain for its supplier and customers globally.

This new online store would be offering large chemical product portfolio in China and increase its growth opportunities in the online market.

Plastics Insight had earlier stated that B2B e-commerce industry is intensifying. All the big chemical companies are entering e-commerce space and do not want to miss this growth story. China with growing B2B online consumers and well established online networks is the test bed for these companies.
