Axalta, a global leader in the coatings industry has released its 66th annual Global Automotive Color Popularity Report showing that white is the most preffered choice of the consumer for vehicle color globally in 2018.
The white color was on the top of the list with 38% popularity followed by black at 18% and silver and grey both occupying third place at 12%. The popularity difference between the white color and the black color has been very large.
In some of the regional areas, black and gray saw significant increases. The report shows that black jumped in China (5%), Asia (3%), South Korea and Africa (both 2%).
Nancy Lockhart, Axalta Global Color Marketing Manager, said, “We have witnessed an emerging trend toward warmer shades along with color combinations with black to challenge white’s position. Although neutral spaces are the headliners, there is an indication of a return to color to change the automotive landscape. Blue is most popular outside the neutrals and holding strong at seven percent of the market, increases of orange and bronze are popping up and gaining interest.”
Axalta’s report, published for the first time in 1953, is the longest running and most comprehensive color report, compiled and designed by Axalta’s global color experts. The report offers automotive OEMs captivating insights into consumer preferences helping them in making a choice for the preferred color for the autos.
“Axalta customers value the annual report and some of the understated trends it unveils”, said, Annie You, Axalta OEM Color Designer – China. She, continued, “In China, white may have peaked in 2017 at 62 percent. This year, it is 58 percent, still well above any other region.”
