Chinese e-commerce brand Alibaba Group along with US carmakers Ford has come up with an innovative idea of ‘car vending machine’ in Guangzhou, China. Shoppers in this southern city of China can now buy a new Ford Car from vending machine with the help of app named Tmall’s app.
The Chinese marketplace has opened a five-story building in the city that is a ‘Super Test-Drive Centre’ offering choice of 100 new Ford cars including Ford Explorer SUV & the Mustang – to test & buy from a vending machine using a mobile phone.
Gu Wanguo, the general manager of vehicles at Tmall Auto, explains the concept by saying “Sign-up is completely mobile on the Tmall or Taobao mobile APP.” Further, he said, “Once a Ford vehicle is chosen, consumers snap a selfie to ensure they are the only person who can take the car, put down a deposit electronically, and schedule a pickup time, all from within the app”
From 23rd April, the vending machine will be available for potential buyers. After the test drive, the customers can make their purchasing decision. This collaboration between Alibaba and Ford Motor on Tmall Super Test-Drive Center is major step to redefine the automotive experience. This partnership aims to integrate the best of the online and physical worlds for Chinese consumers.
Alibaba has future plans to build the same kind of auto vending machines in Beijing & Hangzhou in partnership with Ford.
